Community Input to Planning for the Future

We appreciate time is precious but could you please take some time to read through the following and take advantage of the potentially once in a generation opportunity to influence the planning policies for the future of Angus Council and our community.

To assist planning for the future, Angus Council are currently seeking the views and experiences of the Auchterhouse community, including young people, on where we live, what's good about the area we live in, what could be improved and what needs urgent attention.

Part of this Community Engagement includes an on line survey, which is open to ALL residents or visitors, to share experiences of living and working in Angus. To register your views the survey can be completed here:

Paper copies of the survey are also available on request in all Angus Council libraries or by e mailing comcouncil@auchterhouse.com.

Background
By way of background, Angus Council are in the process of preparing a Local Development Plan 2 and have adopted a "Framework Approach" to community engagement. The Framework Approach is about the Council working with communities and developing a plan for their own area.

Angus Council do however acknowledge that the Framework Approach is a new approach, much of which is still being worked through to implementation, seeking to ensure that Local Development Plan 2 will become a true partnership led/community led Local Development Plan.

The first part of the preparation for the new Plan is called the Evidence Report Stage, gathering a range of information and data including the community’s views on topics broadly around the ten themes illustrated in the diagram below.

The information collection process to support the Evidence Report is anticipated to include the on line survey, as noted above, and views obtained through discussion with community bodies (including the Auchterhouse Community Council) and is anticipated to run through to the end of the year with a report scheduled to go to Angus Council for approval and publication in the spring of 2026

Community Council Engagement
To assist the process of Community Engagement representatives of Auchterhouse Community Council have arranged to meet with other Community Councils and staff from the Angus Council team coordinating the process.

The meeting is to take place, on line, at 6.00pm om Monday, 4th of August and the purpose of the meeting is to:

  • Obtain more information on the Angus Council Framework Approach to the preparation of the new Local Development Plan.
  • Provide Angus Council with an outline of the Auchterhouse Community Council area, including a summary of the opportunities and challenges within the area.
  • Discuss the options for the Community Council engagement on the development of the Local Plan under the Framework Approach as it progresses towards implementation.

Feedback from the initial meeting with Angus Council and development of proposals for further Community Engagement will be discussed at the next Community Council meeting which is to be held in the village Hall at 7.00pm on Wednesday the 20th of August.
